“Ma bhios sgiath airgid air a’ ghealaich, faodar an t-arbhar a ghearradh.”

Chaneil mòran dhaoine a tha eòlach air an t-seinn aig Màiri nach aontaicheadh gu robh làn àm ann an t-arbhar a tha seo a bhuain. Na measg, mar a bhiodh dùil, tha sàr òrain à sgìre Nis agus à grunn sgìrean eile ann an Leòdhas. The a ‘ bhuaidh mhaireannach a thug na bliadhnaichean a chuir i seachad a-measg nan Uibhisteach follaiseach cuideachd.

Tha i a’ seinn le doimhneachd tuigse air a dualchas agus le co-fhaireachdainn do chuspair gach òran, bhiodh e èibhinn no tiamhaidh no tursach.

This is a wonderful collection of songs gleaned mainly from Mairi Nic a' Ghobhainn's (Mary Smith) own home region of Ness on the Island of Lewis. Several of the songs will be familiar to those who listen to music of this genre, but Mary Smith imbues them with something special - it's as if one was hearing them as they would have sounded in centuries past. A long overdue album from one of Gaeldom's best singers. "‘Sgiath Airgid’, her first CD, is long overdue and eagerly awaited.

"As we’d expect, Mairi sings a range of songs from her own native district of Ness and from other areas of Lewis. The profound effect her years living in South Uist had on her repertoire is also evident in the choice of songs. Her affection for Ireland and her respect for its song tradition is marked by the beautiful Da mbeinn i mo bhadoir and having had the privilege of experiencing the Willie Clancy Festival in Mary’s company I know her many fans in Ireland will welcome ‘Sgiath Airgid’ as warmly as her many fans on this side of Sruth na Maoile."
