Rugadh agus thogadh Art MacCarmaig anns an Eilean Sgitheanach far a bheil e fhathast a' fuireach, ann am Port Rìgh.
Thòisich e a' seinn nuair a bha e mu ochd bliadhna a dh'aois, agus choisinn e Bonn Òr a' Chomuinn Ghàidhealaich nuair nach robh e ach 18. Tha e air grunn chlàir a dhèanamh, a' seinn leis fhèin agus a' seinn le còmhlain leithid Mac-talla agus Cliar agus tha e tric ri chluinntinn air rèidio agus ri fhaicinn air prògraman telebhisean.
Ged a tha e a' seinn cho tric agus is urrainn dha, tha e trang le obair-latha na Cheannard air Fèisean nan Gàidheal. Tha e cuideachd am measg a' cheathrar a chuir an companaidh Macmeanmna air chois, agus bha e na Chathraiche fad 14 bliadhna air Àros Ltd, an companaidh a thog agus a tha a' ruith ionad as a bheil taigh-dhealbh agus cluiche ann am Port Rìgh.
Tha e air a bhith air Bòrd Riaghlaidh Eden Court an Inbhir Nis, air Comataidh-Ciùil Chomhairle nan Ealain agus na bhall de Chomhairle nan Ealain. Bha e na Chathraiche air Bòrd na Gàidhlig bhon Ghearran 2009 gu Màirt 2012 an dèidh a bhith na bhall den Bhòrd bho chaidh a stèidheachadh ann an 2003. Bha e cuideachd na Iar-chathraiche air Sabhal Mòr Ostaig.
Arthur Cormack was born and brought up in the Isle of Skye where he still lives and works.
He began singing at the age of 8, and won the National Mòd Gold Medal - the premier award for Gaelic singing - at the age of 18. He has several albums to his credit, as a solo singer and with the bands Mac-talla and Cliar, and makes regular appearances on television and radio.
He still sings as much as he can and as work commitments allow, but his day job, as Chief Executive of Fèisean nan Gàidheal, keep him very busy. He is one of four founders of Macmeanmna; a well-established and respected Gaelic music production company and was Chairman, for 13 years, of Aros Ltd in Portree, a company that built the Skye Heritage Centre, Cinema and Theatre in his home village of Portree.
He is a former member of the Board of Governors of Eden Court Theatre and the Scottish Arts Council. He was the Cathraiche (Chair) of Bòrd na Gàidhlig from February 2009 until March 2012, having been a member of the Bòrd since its establishment in 2003. He was also a Vice-chair of Sabhal Mòr Ostaig.
